Formula Renault 2.0 at Hockenheim (~27 mins) [Added 2021-12-07]: I got a quick repair after a car ahead of me crashed on lap 1 and collected me, and ended up finishing the race on the lead lap. The video is worth watching for the first lap, and then from about 12:20-13:50.
Formula Renault 2.0 at Silverstone (~29 mins) [Added 2021-12-07]: I started on the pole for this race, and ran in second for the entire race. Lap 9 from about 17:20-18:10 in the video is the most interesting bit, where I make my way past a couple of lapped cars who are racing each other.
Formula Renault 2.0 at Long Beach (~24 mins) [Added 2021-12-07]: I ran in 3rd for most of this race after passing the pole sitter at the start as he spun his wheels at the green flag. I let him back past me a bit later because I knew from seeing him in earlier races that he was much faster than me.
Formula Renault 2.0 at Okayama (~27 mins) [Added 2021-11-01]: This was another race in which mostly nothing happened. Okayama is a track that many iRacers know, because it is a "free" track (everyone has access to it as soon as they join) and many people race on it as part of getting out of the "Rookie" class. But it's never been among my favorites. In this race, I started 3rd on the grid, popped the clutch a little too quickly at the start and spun the back wheels, and lost a bunch of positions. But I mostly got them back, and finished 4th, which was about where I belonged. I lost a lot of time to the car ahead of me in the first half of the race because I got shin cramps in my braking leg and couldn't get on the brakes properly; once I got through that things got better and I kept pace with P3 for a lot of the second half.
Formula Renault 2.0 at Monza (~25 mins) [Added 2021-10-31]: We ran an unusual configuration of this track, with no chicanes. You ran the car flat out (with your throttle foot on the floor) for a full 45 seconds from the Parabolica (the last corner on the track) all the way to the two right-hand turns called the Curve di Lesmo. I started 3rd and got ahead of the second-place car on the grid by the time we had to brake for the first curve, and then stayed in 2nd place for the entire race. The first place driver had run the race many times and pretty consistently gained 0.2-0.3 seconds on me through the Lesmo Curves. Also check out this nice video of a bunch of crashes from another Monza race this week that someone made.
Formula Renault 2.0 at Mid-Ohio (~30 mins) [Added 2021-10-19]: This is only the second race that my brother and I have ever been in together. He started 3rd on the grid and I was right next to him starting 4th, and we ended up finishing in those positions. At the end of lap 7 (09:52 in the video), a car ahead of me spun approaching the carousel, and I went off track through the grass to avoid it; the driver behind me tried to go left instead of right and ended up crashing into the stopped car.
Formula Renault 2.0 at Barcelona (~27 mins) [Added 2021-10-12]: This is a good track for working on your driving skills -- there aren't any oddball turns here, it's very clear how you should drive the track, it's simply a matter of consistently executing the motions. Unfortunately, I didn't -- on lap 2 I overcooked things going into the big loopy turn 12 and fell from 3rd to 4th place, and then on lap 3 I missed the brake point into the hairpin turn 5 and went off track and lost another 3 spots. I ended up finishing 5th after starting 2nd.
Formula Renault 2.0 at Lime Rock (~26 mins) [Added 2021-10-10]: I was close behind the 2 car and not far ahead of the 4 car throughout this entire race, but none of us ever made a big mistake and we finished in that order, never passing one another at all. We had some close calls with lapped traffic, but survived them.
Formula Renault 2.0 at the NĂĽrburgring (~29 mins) [Added 2021-10-04]: The entire field of 15 cars finished on the lead lap in this race, which I don't recall ever happening before in any of my races. I never passed anyone competitively in this race, but 3 cars ahead of me had incidents going off track that let me get past. For the first half of the race there's a battle for position between two cars way ahead of me that you can often see in the video. I was waiting for them to crash into each other and hoping to avoid the wreck that I assumed would happen ahead of me at some point. It happened and I avoided it. I finished 6th after starting 9th.
Formula Renault 2.0 at Red Bull Ring in Austria (~28 mins) [Added 2021-10-04]: A couple cars spun or went off track ahead of me on the first lap, giving me third place, and I was hot on the heels of the second place car for laps 2-13. At the end of lap 13 I spun when I got on the brakes too hard in a bad spot as we approached a lapped car, and I ended up finishing fourth.
Formula Renault 2.0 at Imola (~30 mins) [Added on 2021-09-17]: I ran a solid race here, giving up a lot of positions the first couple of laps as I often do (someone nearly pushed me off track in the fast left-hander at the exit of Tamburello at the start). I finished 8th after starting 11th as the 16th ranked driver in the field.
ARCA at Dover (~21 mins) [Added 2021-10-19]: This was my first time driving this track, and I was well off the pace of the top drivers. I managed tires pretty well though, and passed a few people toward the end. At the very end of the race, an incident at the front of the field took out 7 of the top 8 cars in a big crash (shown in a replay at the end of the race video), and as a result I moved up from 17th to 10th in the final two laps of the race.
ARCA at USA International Speedway (Lakeland, Florida) (~21 mins) [Added 2021-10-10]: I started 10th and finished 11th as the 16th ranked driver in the field. I let a couple of cars pass me because it looked like they were going to be faster than me (in fact the first one got on the radio and asked me to let him by), but it turned out I kept up with them for the rest of the race. This was a solid run for me in a strong top-split field.
ARCA at Darlington, Race 2 (~20 mins) [Added 2021-10-10]: This was a good, uneventful race. Darlington is a very difficult track to drive, and having a boring race there is a triumph. I started 10th and finished 11th as the 16th ranked car.
ARCA at Darlington, Race 1 (~20 mins) [Added 2021-10-10]: I started this race on the pole (in first position) and led the first 7 laps, which was fun, and then started to gradually fall back. I should have finished 5th or 6th, which would have been nice, but with 3 laps to go I got into the wall all by myself, and got "meatball flagged" and had to go into the pits. (This is a black flag for damage, and had I not pitted, I'd have been disqualified altogether.) I ended up finishing 12th, one lap down.
ARCA at Phoenix (~22 mins) [Added 2021-10-04]: This was an uninteresting ARCA race at a track that is many drivers' favorite. In the past I've never practiced enough here to run a competent race, so I was glad to make a decent showing here, finishing 7th as the 12th-ranked driver in a field of 19.
ARCA at Kansas Speedway (~20 mins) [Added on 2021-09-17]: I did very well on this fast track with a lot of banking. I've learned to save tires at these tracks so that I can be part of the battle at the end of the race. I fell back from the leaders a lot through the first 10 laps as I conserved my front tires, but then I began to reel them back in. This is a fun race to watch if you like oval or stock car racing.
Indy Pro at Detroit (~31 mins) [Added 2021-10-13]: This was a fantastic race for me, I had fun in this one, starting 6th as the 8th-ranked car and finishing 3rd. Detroit is a challenging, rough (bumpy) street course, where small mistakes usually run you into a concrete wall and damage your car enough that your race is over. In fact, only 5 of the 21 cars in the field for this race completed all 21 laps -- 6 cars ahead of me had incidents that forced them to leave the race and go for repairs, and for most of the second half of the race I was running in 2nd place. I finished 3rd when the car right behind me got a nice run off turn 2 on the final lap and drew even with me down the long straight heading into turn 3. But all in all, this was a great race for me.
Indy Pro at Red Bull Ring (Spielberg, Austria) (~28 mins) [Added 2021-10-10]: This race started with a field of only 6 cars, and after the first few laps 3 of them had dropped out and there were only 3 of us left. We gradually separated from one another, but as the race wore on I caught the 2nd place car ahead of me, and we had a close race for most of the second half. I ended up finishing second after that car spun in the slow sharp turn 3 at the top of the hill.
